The Best Beauty Moments of the AMAs 2014

I was not ready for the high levels of peng that were at last night’s AMAs.

First off, lets talk about Fergie coming out of nowhere and blowing us all away!

Fergie (1) Fergie (2)

That hair colour looks gorgeous on her and with all the long bobs around these days, it’s nice to see someone representing the long hair. Her soft natural makeup looks great with her loose waves. Surprising how such a natural look can be such a knockout, but it just works.

J Lo (as always) looked fantastic.

Jennifer-Lopez (1)

I love the sleeked back wet look hair, because it’s very easy to do with greasy hair (which mine always is). You can just tell people it’s product. The eyeshadow under her lower lash line is smoked out to perfection and she’s rocking some killer Louboutin nails (when the underside of the nails are painted red)

Jordin Sparks

BAM! Look at that glam, Studio 54 hair. Jordin looked great channeling 1970s Diana Ross.

The Jenner Faction

photo 1 photo 2

Both of the Jenner sisters looked great. Kendall went for a sleek long bob while Kylie contrasted with her signature blue hair in a messy bun. Their makeup was by Rob Scheppy and for Kylie he used:

Makeup Forever Palette foundation set in Medium Beige with Translucent Natural Powder

Charlotte Tilbury FilmStar Highlight and Contour

Eyeko Lash Wardrobe Black Magic Mascara and Eyeko Brow Liner and Brow Gel

And the one we all want to know about; Mac Lip Liner in Burgandy with Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Balm over the top.

For Kendall he used all Estee Lauder products, because Kendall is now the face of Estee Lauder:

The foundation was Bare Creme

Ivory Powder on the eyes

Star Pink lipgloss

Lovers Blush on the cheeks.

They looked beautiful.

Jhene Aiko posted this picture of her getting ready:

Of course she’s already a stunningly beautiful woman, so obviously she looks great, but I particularly like her grecian plait with the curls.

I’m normally not a fan of Rita Ora‘s makeup, personally I don’t like really dark eyebrows with blonde hair, but she did look nice last night:

Rita-Ora (1)

Her makeup looked a lot less severe than usual, because she opted for a more natural lip colour, and her spidery lashes actually go with her spider earrings! That wasn’t shade, spider lashes are having a moment.

And finally, Selena Gomez

Selena looked so chic on the red carpet. Her smooth centre-parted chignon with the burgundy lipstick made her look mature and elegant.

So that’s the AMAs for another year. Now it’s just waiting for the Golden Globes and then, my favourite night because I’m a film nerd, The Oscars!

Emmys 2014 Beauty Roundup

Last night, the 66th Primetime Emmy awards, saw the coming together of some of Televisions biggest stars (even if they did forget about Broad City). I could fill a whole separate blog talking about the shows, winners and nominees (I am TV’s biggest fan) but I’ll just stick to my favourite hair and makeup looks of the night.

10. Edie Falco

photo 2 (2)

I thought Edie looked gorgeous last night. Her tan perfectly complimented her sunkissed highlights, and she kept it glam with some fluttery lashes and a nude lip. Very Flattering.

9. Mayim Bialik

photo 1 (2)

I love this grecian hair on Blossom – I mean Amy – I mean Mayim!

8. Mindy Kaling

photo 1

Even though The Mindy Project didn’t receive any nominations, Mindy still won in terms of beauty. The sixties beehive hair (always shiny) plus blushing pink cheeks and smokey eyes equal one beautiful Mindy.

7. Christine Baranski

photo 2 (1)

My personal favourite star of The Good Wife looked chic and classy last night. Her signature hair was as always coiffed to perfection and her makeup is glam but understated.

6. Christina Hendricks

photo 1 (1)

I love this boho hair with the sheer blushed lips and coppery smokey eyes. Nothing could look better with her hair and skin tone. She looks beautiful.

5. Julie Bowen

photo 4 (2)

Peng. I really like this edgy version of the classic bob. It looks fierce with her smokey eyes.

4. Keke Palmer

photo 3 (1) photo 4 (1)

Keke’s hair and makeup is ON. POINT. I love the double nose piercings and the sleek long ponytail, plus the smokey cat eye to top it all off.

3. Kerry Washington

This ombre grown out bob is everything! And who would have thought matte denim blue eyeshadow would go so well with an orange dress? I need to find out what eyeshadow her makeup artist used.

2. Sarah Hyland

photo 3 (2)

My beauty winner. The simple hair donut looks gorgeous with Haley’s blonde highlights. Plus we can see all of her beautiful face. Her eyebrows look full without looking fake, her lashes and golden brown eyeshadow on the upper outer corner of her lids accentuate her hazel eyes and her lipstick is the perfect ‘Kylie Jenner’ shade. This is my favourite look of the entire evening, bar one..

VMAs 2014 Beauty Roundup

Last night/this morning (depending on what part of the ,world you’re in) it was the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, nicknamed by Beyoncé fans as the BeyMAs. And you can see why, with her 17 minute performance and teary award acceptance. But enough people are talking about Bey today, so I’m going to focus on the other stars of last night. The BEAUTY stars.

The Ageless Beauties

photo 3 (3)

Lets be serious, JLo never misses a beat when it comes to looking knock out gorgeous. So it’s no surprise she’s on this list. I love the purple smokey eyes with pink lipstick and a glowing cheekbone. And with the complexity of her dress, she is keeping it simple with her hair. It works.

Gwen Stefani

photo 1 (3) photo 4

I think it’s fair to say these women look even better now than they did in the noughties. Gwen looks great matching her lips to her outfit and with her signature blonde hair. Of course, she has one of the most perfect faces of all time so I don’t think it is possible for her to look bad.

The Model Chicks

Jourdan Dunn

photo 1 (1)

That wig though. Such a cute style.

Chanel Iman

photo 2 (1) photo 4 (2)

Again, a beauty rocking some shorter locks. Is this going to be the new trend? And Chanel is giving us her signature smokey eyes and barely there lips. I’m not disappointed.

Ireland Baldwin

photo 3 (2) photo 2 (2)

I couldn’t find any close up pictures of Ireland’s makeup last night, but these two shots really capture her glow. She is also sporting a full pair of top lashes, sixties style. Again, Ireland is one of those girls who always look stunning, makeup or no makeup.

The Talent

Iggy Azalea

photo 1 photo 3 (1)

BAM! That’s the sound of Iggy knocking us all out with her body-ody-ody. I love this hair on her, and with all her natural beauty all she relied on was a pair of fluttery lashes and let her beauty speak for itself

Holland Roden

photo 3

I don’t even know who this girl is except that she is some kind of actress, but this look blew me away. Her coppery brown smokey eye with her natural matte lips perfectly compliment her hair and skin tone. This girl got it 100% right.

Kylie Jenner

photo 2

Kylie’s many makeup artists always get it right. Whether those lips are surgically enhanced or it’s just the effects of a good lip liner, she looks stunning. Her hair is in her usual bob, and her lips are a slightly darker shade of her normal nude, and from the neck up she looks fantastic.

‘Muva’ Rosebud (aka Amber Rose)

photo 1 (2)

Her dress may have been a little controversial, but she kept it simple and classy with the face.

photo 4 (1)

A nice glow, some pink lips and cheeks and a couple of sets of eyelashes. Can’t go wrong. Let’s hope it was nice and warm in Hollywood last night.

So those are my beauty favourites of last night. Join me tomorrow to discuss the Emmy’s!

BAFTAs 2014: Beauty Roundup

Taking place on the same night as the Billboard Music Awards were the Baftas. This was whole different kind of look to the BBMAs. One is British TV actors, and the other is pop stars. Two very different styles, but some equally beautiful looks. Here are my faves:

Josephine de la Baume

Josephine is a french actress and is also married to Mark Ronson. I admit, I didn’t know who this was and had to look her up. But I’ve included her because I can’t get over how beautiful her hair is. Such a beautiful colour and that Veronica Lake style really suits it. Makeup-wise there’s not much to speak of except she has gorgeous skin, which is complimented well by her foundation and peach blush.

Naomie Harris

Naomie Harris is already super pengers, so it must be so fun doing her makeup. Her eyebrows are perfectly arched and not too overdrawn, and she looks beautiful with that arabic style eye liner and Kardashian style lashes. It really accentuates her feline shaped eyes. And to top it off just a slight sheen of pink on her lips to match her outfit. Perfection.

Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita is always on my beauty lists because I love her use of colour in her makeup. Her MUA has gone for a teal green on the eyes to match the bright green of her dress with a reddish/brown lip. Even though this is a lot of bright colours, it doesn’t look like too much. Somehow it all works and still looks minimal and elegant.

Lea Seydoux

Blue is the Warmest Colour‘s Lea Seydoux is another who’s chosen to wear Veronica Lake waves and side parting to compliment the red in her hair. If this is her natural hair colour, I am so jealous, if this is the work of her hair stylist, I need his/her details. And the makeup is gorgeous. A sweep of blue to match her dress with barely there eyebrows and nude lips, so all the attention goes to her eyes. It was a well made decision.

Cate Blanchett

Oscar winner, Cate, is showing off her flawless alabaster skin here by utilising a loosely swept back updo. Both skin and hair look great. The rest of her makeup (mascara, eyebrows, shade of lipstick) is not my fave but I hardly notice as I’m too busy staring at that complexion.

And finally, I had to include the big winner of the night and my favourite actress, Olivia Colman

She is just glowing and her happiness radiates. Which is really the best makeup. Also those killer falsies with the 1940s hair and lipstick aren’t bad either.

Overall there was lots of 1940s hair and lots of gorgeous skin. But the makeup was more understated that the BBMAs and slightly less glam, which suited the event. I still enjoyed this different type hair and makeup, but reviewing a music event is a lot more fun.

Oscars 2014 Beauty round up

The Oscars are the current topic on everybody’s lips and twitter accounts, from Lupita Nyong’o’s speech to that selfie. As a film geek I could spend many hours talking about the films and the winners (poor Leo), but this is a beauty blog and I want to focus on THE MAKEUP!

Now the Oscars is a classy event. And people seem to think that makeup isn’t classy. They will wear more makeup to make it look like they aren’t wearing any. The amount of makeup that goes into a natural look…seriously you would not believe. I’ll do a video tutorial one day maybe of my natural look. But I digress, my point is that most of the big stars didn’t do anything special with their faces. The main theme seemed to be pale skin with badly matched bronzer, red lips and tide marks. However there were some stand outs for me, albeit mostly not actors and mostly at the after parties. So without further ado here is my top 8 makeup looks of the Oscars 2014:

At number 8: Irina Shayk

I had to google who she was, but apparently she is a Russian model who’s face was perfection at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. Her foundation matches the rest of her skin and looks even, her lips are understated and they’ve even tried a bronze smokey eye. The only criticism I have is that I don’t think bronze works with blue eyes, but she looks gorgeous.

No.7 – Gaga

The Goddess of Love looks like perfection at both the main event and the Vanity Fair party. The makeup works perfectly with both of her costume changes. This ‘natural seductress’ look is very versatile. It looks elegant with an updo and smouldering with her hair (read: wig) down. The matching peach lips and blusher looks exotic without trying too hard and her eye makeup accentuates the natural cat eye shape of her eyes, bringing out the Venus within. I have been told a couple of times I look like Gaga (I wish) so this is a look I often aim to recreate.

No.6 – Selena Gomez:

Selena looks gorgeous here, and again has gone for the peach tones in her skin and lips. This works really well with her complexion, dark eyes and hair. If you look closely you can see her makeup artist has achieved an almost perfect smokey eye with a cat eye purple shadow with a hint of glitter and perfectly highlighted for contrast. Majuh snaps to the makeup artist here.

No.5 – Gabrielle Union:

The future Mrs. D. Wade always looks flawless and this is no exception. Her foundation is even all over with a gorgeous glow, her eyelashes and eyebrows are on point, and her lip colour is so on trend. And she even went with natural hair for the night. She looks truly beautiful here.

No.4 – Chanel Iman:

Number 4 is the incomparable Chanel Iman, who looked just peng in the video for Yoncé. At the Vanity Fair party we see her with possibly one of the best smokey eyes I’ve ever seen with to die for skin and lips. The smudged out Kohl trick is an oldie but a goodie. It is just vital to remember to line the water line with a sharp darker line to contrast with the smudge. Which her makeup artist has achieved here. If you look at her eyes you can see where the water line is lined and where the smudged eyeliner and eyeshadow has been applied to achieve the smokey look. The fact that the eye is defined before it is blended out is what makes this look so attractive.

No.3 – Crystal Renn:

Wow. Seriously. It is SEVERE up in HERE. Ms Renn looks fierce. Everything about this look is just so on point. The eyebrows, the eyeliner, the lips. It’s all to die. It is so unusual for this kind of event. It is definitely the stand out look. The cat eye flick with the inside corners of the eye lined to balance it out is a tricky but worth while look. Combined with her dark eyebrows and lips, she looks like a Bond femme fatale. 10 out of 10.

No.2 – Vanessa Hudgens (Yes, really):

I honestly never thought Vanessa Hudgens would look so hot. She has been trying really hard to break away from her Disney image (*cough* Spring Breakers) but as we know, the harder they try, the more cringe it is to watch (Miley Cyrus, Amanda Bynes). But here she looks badass without having to try so hard. First of all, the eyes: the brown shadows work perfectly with her chocolate eyes, and those lashes are severe! Instead of smoking out eyeshadow underneath her lower lash line, her makeup artist has gone for the intense lower lashes look (alla Kim K) and it works. Plus the dark red lips which are so hot right now, this equals one intense look. And that’s not even mentioning THE NAILS! The shape, the length, the colour, the accessories, the rings. It’s just all working for me. Instead of looking like a Disney star trying to look like a rebel, she looks like a rebel who’s cleaned up for the night. It just works.

And finally Number ONE is OF COURSE:

Lupita Nyong’o!!!

Everyone is just gushing about this beautiful, talented actress and I have to join in. I’ll try to just stick to the makeup though. First of all, that skin. Absolutely stunning, and I hate using the word stunning but there is no other word for it. It is flawless and the glow, even though I’m sure most of that was coming from within, made her look radiant. The peachy blusher with the coral pink lips is a master stroke and works perfectly with her skin tone and the eyes are simple yet effective.

And thanks to you, Lupita, the whole world is going to be fishing out their school head bands to wear again.
