Great Etsy beauty finds you (probably) had no idea existed

Etsy is a treasure trove of handmade and vintage items. It is more than just crafts and vintage clothes. There at thousands, even tens of thousands, of beauty shops. Because it is all handmade, almost everything out there is organic and vegan friendly. You will find things on Etsy you would never see in shops, some for good reason, but mostly items are original pieces made with love.

For an exhaustive range of sparkly nail polishes, the Vegas based shop ILoveNP has got you covered.

At around £6.82 each, they’re slightly more expensive than a drug store brand, but in which drug stores would you find this colour?

Etsy classic, Portland Black Lipstick Company, does exactly what it says on the tin. Great black lipstick for just £9.54. But they also have a range of other similarly ‘alternative’ colours. Their namesake, however, is their best seller.

For cute soaps that you won’t find anywhere else, go to AubreyEApothecary and Soapopotamus. These guys have soaps AubreyE has soaps shaped like sushi:

Gummy bears

And even coal (a great stocking filler)

And soapopotamus has deliciously realistic looking Cinnamon buns:

Liquid ‘honey’ soap

And a half-dozen of the glazed, please

For just £4.77! Turn your bathroom into a mini bakery.

If price isn’t an object, For Strange Women has a delightfully gothic selection of vintage style perfumes in both solid and liquid form, in beautiful packaging. However the cheapest perfumes start at around £35, or you could spend around £100 on solid perfume necklaces.

Finally, Fat and the Moon is a cosmetics company that has natural beauty products from deodorants to lipsticks.

This lip and cheek stain is just £8.18 and will have you going from zero to vamp in 3.5.

So if you are looking for gifts this holiday season, or just want to treat yourself, don’t forget to make Etsy one of your stops before heading out to the shops. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Covergirl has released an exclusive Star Wars themed makeup line to coincide with the build up to the new films release. Just like tickets for the movie, this makeup is selling out fast so it looks like you’ll have to be quick to get your paws on it.

The flawless Janelle Monae is one of the faces of this collection, if you needed more of a reason to love it.

The products consist of two mascaras ($6.85), 6 different shades of lipstick ($6.99) and 6 different nail polishes ($5.49).

They are marketing the collection as the Dark Side and the Rebel Alliance, however each different shade of lipstick and nail polish is made for 6 specific looks.

  • Stormtrooper (lipstick in Dark Purple)
  • Droid (lipstick in Gold)
  • Dark Apprentice (lipstick in Red and nail polish in Fury)
  • Mystic (lipstick in Lilac)
  • Chrome Captain (lipstick in Silver)
  • Jedi (lipstick in Nude and nail polish in Speed of Light)

This looks like a fun collection and because it is Covergirl, it is affordable.  If I were stateside I’d go out and bag some of it before it all sells out.

Winter beauty trends 2015

Matte is out

Gloss is back, in lips and foundation. Now people are ‘strobing’ (a revived 00s trend) instead of matte contouring, shimmery faces will be everywhere. As will glossy lips. Just like our school days.

Blushing beauties

Bare faced looks with lots of blush seem to be everywhere. Think wind-beaten atop a mountain.

On the line

Lining your waterline is back (for me, it never left). For ultra quick smokey eyes, bring back the kohl on your lower waterline.

Vamp lips

This is a staple of every winter look since I can remember. And this year is no exception. Dark lipstick is very unforgiving to apply with a steady hand. And remember, a little goes a long way.

Zendaya’s hottest beauty looks

Zendaya is one of the coolest people on the planet hands down. Everything she does is just 👌🏼

And that includes her makeup. These are, in my opinion, her best looks.

Those brown smokey eyes with the matte brown lips and perfect eyebrows.

Pink lips with subtle brown eyeshadow and just a hint of pink blush.

imageThis red extravaganza with the ombré red lips and red and purple eyeshadow.

And lastly, my favourite…

No makeup.

Expiration dates on makeup

We all know what a bummer it is, when your makeup collection is worth thousands, and then some magazine reminds you that it will be out of date in 6 months and you should throw it all away and start over. That just isn’t going to happen. If I’ve spent money on an item of makeup, I’m going to use it until it runs out. However here is a list of makeup products and when you should stop using them.

Mascara: 2-3 months

Nail varnish: 1-2 years

Liquid foundation: 6-12 months

Perfume: 8-10 years

Lipstick: 2 years (1 year for lipgloss)

Lotion: 2 years

Eyeshadow and other powders: 2 years.

So what happens if you don’t obey these rules? Well with any product you use on your eyes, there is a greater risk of infection. With foundation, more breakouts. But if you take good care of your makeup, don’t share it, store it properly and clean your brushes regularly, you might be able to keep using it for longer. Use your good judgement, and if in doubt, don’t put it near your eyes.

My Top 5 Stars who always have the best makeup

Celebrities, with their personal glam squads, are constantly giving us makeup envy. They can inspire our beauty looks. We all have our personal favourites, but these are my Top 5, in no particular order.

Nicki Minaj

She has winged liner for dayyys. Her looks are always on point.

When Ciara does wear makeup, she keeps it very minimal. Its gorgeous and easy to recreate.

And in her free time she doesn’t wear any makeup at all, which is my favourite look to copy.

Her eyeshadows are always a beautiful array of nudes, browns and golds. And great winged liner.

Winged liner, winged liner, winged liner.

Amber Rose

Although we rarely see Muva without her signature sunglasses, we know underneath she is rocking that winged liner.

As you may have guessed, I like winged liner.

My top 5 vintage beauty icons

Who do you think of when you think of beauty icons from the past? These five women are often revered for their icon status, as pioneering women of beauty, hair and makeup. But I am interested if there is anyone less well known that you think deserves a mention.

This is my top 5:

Obviously, Marilyn

Those arched brows with the winged liner and red lips.

Jayne Mansfield

Following the trend Marilyn started for the glamorous blonde, Mansfield made it far more interesting with her beautiful tanned skin and brown eyes.

Veronica Lake

These waves have been imitated  for 70 years.

Sophia Loren

This insanely beautiful woman knew eyeliner and lipliner like nobody else.

Brigitte Bardot

Obviously influenced by Loren, Bardot is the universal symbol of 60s glamour. Matte nude lips, a ton of eye liner and big hair has been a fail safe beauty look ever since.

Who do you think of when you think of vintage beauty?

Ruby Rose’s Hottest Makeup Looks

Ruby Rose is fast becoming a household name after her appearance in Orange is the New Black. To some, however, she has been known for a while for her androgynous beauty.

I have compiled a list of my favourite Ruby Rose makeup looks so all of my followers who are unfamiliar with her, can appreciate the flawlessness that is Ruby Rose.

This kohl lined/smudged brown eyeshadow smokey eye look appears a lot on Ruby’s instagram page. And you can see why. Its makeup that looks great whilst still looking effortless and andro-chic. As you will see it can be paired with any lip, such as this nude/brown…

Or this baby pink.

This more intense glam look adds some extra liquid liner and some lashes with a darker, brighter hot pink lip.

With these statement lips, the only eye makeup necessary is a bit of mascara, which Ruby totally rocks.

But my favourite makeup look of Ruby’s by far is…

No makeup.

The Queen of Winged Eyeliner

Since Nicki Minaj’s make-under, she has been sporting some wicked eye-liner. Her makeup artist, Joyce Bonelli, may have been responsible for some more disastrous looks in the past but she really redeemed herself by simplifying Nicki’s look down to one classic, staple feature.

Nicki’s makeup at NYFW was the best eyeliner I’ve ever seen

It’s undeniable, Nicki Minaj is the Queen of the Winged Liner.

Mac Cinderella Collection

Mac is releasing their Cinderella collection to coincide with the movie release in March.

It will consist of:

Two lipsticks. The more pinky nude is Royal Ball and the browner nude is Free as a Butterfly.

mac-cinderella-lipglass-happily-ever-after mac-cinderella-lipglass-glass-slipper

Two lipglasses in Happily Ever After and Glass Slipper (almost identical, right?)

One eyeshadow palette:

Two ‘Eye Glosses’ in Lightly Tauped and Pearl Varnish

mac-cinderella-studio-eye-gloss-pearl-varnish mac-cinderella-studio-eye-gloss-lightly-tauped

This is a new type of product, one that I haven’t seen from Mac before. It seems to be one of those sheer ultra glossy cream eyeshadows.

There’s also a line of Fluidline gel liners in two different colours: Little Black Bow and Macrviolet

mac-cinderella-fluidline-little-black-bow mac-cinderella-fluidline-macroviolet

There are two gorgeous looking powder highlighter in Coupe D’Chic and Mystery Princess

Three pressed pigments (although one is actually glitter!) in Reflects Pearl, Evil Stepmother and Pretty It Up:

mac-cinderella-glitter-reflects-pearl mac-cinderella-pigment-evil-stepmother mac-cinderella-pigment-pretty-it-up

The Olive pigment seems a bit incongruous with the rest of the collection but hey, its Mac.

There’s also a mascara and two brushes (boring)

I have to say this is the nicest collection to come out of Mac in a while. The movie doesn’t seem like much to get excited about (Its certainly no ‘Into The Woods’) but at least the makeup is cute. I wonder if any of the normal public will be able to get hold of any of the products before the sell out.
