Aspirin has a secret that has been discovered by the beauty industry. It contains salacylic acid which is like magic for spots and acne.
One of my favourite spot-on spot treatments, Mario Badescu Drying Lotion, contains salacylic acid and it what makes it work so well. You can apply this whenever you feel like a spot might be thinking about coming out and it will make it change it’s mind and disappear before it even showed it’s face. So I am a big believer in this acid.
A simple way to reap the benefits of salacylic acid is via this easy to make face mask.
You will need:
Half a lemon
One teaspoon of runny or warm honey
Crush the aspirin with the bottom of a glass in a ramekin
Squeeze in the juice of half a lemon and stir until the aspirin is dissolved
Add a teaspoon of honey
Honey has amazing antibacterial properties which makes it a great ingredient for any face mask.
Apply with a face brush, I use my Ole Henriksen facial brush
It is quite runny so it is easier to apply with a brush.
Once it has dried you can wash it off.
Your skin might be a bit pink afterwards but it will go down. If you have dry skin this might not be the best face mask for you. Or you can vary the recipe and ingredients to create a consistency perfect for you and even add some tea tree oil, or coconut oil. The aspirin will help reduce your current spots and prevent breakouts when used regularly. It can also decrease inflammation and clean out blocked pores. Give it a try!
