Brown Lipstick

As the nineties beauty trend is still going strong, I’m seeing a lot of brown lipstick everywhere.

Its definitely a classic nineties look

And it looks great with updated modern makeup.

A great brown lipstick that people are going bonkers for is this Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Birkin Brown (£23)

slightly cheaper are these Bobbi Brown Lipsticks in Brown and Chocolate (£19.50).

And this Iillamasqua lipstick in Shard (£18.50)

This one is good for transitioning into the trend because it has a red tinge.

They’re all very Kylie Jenner.

Kylie Jenner reveals secret to her full lips

Girls: stop doing crazy diy things to your lips to try and get the Kylie Jenner look! It’s officially been revealed that Kylie had her lips done so no amount of lip liner is going to get you the Kylie Jenner look.

In this clip from KKUTK, Khloe Kardashian reveals that Kylie had her lips ‘plumped’. Then in a later clip, Kylie herself confesses to having fillers.

So now we know. I am very saddened by this news. The fact that a child (she was 16 when her lips tripled in size) would feel that she had to have injections in her lips to achieve a beauty ideal is incredibly disturbing and reflects the pressure on young girls to be sexual objects. Poor Kylie. She was perfect as she was and I hope she will receive nothing but support from the public.

Does the shot glass lip plumper really work?

Recently people have started doing something crazy. In order to get fuller looking lips, girls and boys have been suctioning their lips with a shot glass. It is bizarre. Not only does it look ridiculous, but the science behind it is bonkers. Pulling your lips into a vacuum is going to make your lips bigger for all of five seconds. It like thinking that stretching your lips with your hands is going to make them bigger.

But I tried it anyway just to prove my theory.

Here are my lips before:

I then got a shot glass and placed is over my lips and sucked until my lips were pulled into the glass. I kept it on for about 30 seconds and this was the result:

For a full five seconds, my lips looked plumper. Then they went back to their normal shape and I was left with a red ring all around the bottom half of my face.

Come on, guys. Are we really that desperate to have fuller looking lips? Why can’t we be happy with what we’ve got, or use makeup to make them look bigger like everybody else.

Getting punched in the mouth will also make your lips look bigger. Or sticking the suction end of the hoover on them. But we’re not going to start doing those things just for beauty, are we? At least, I hope not…

If you have thin lips and you don’t like them, try the old fashioned techniques. Lip liner, staying away from dark lipsticks, and playing up your eyes. Or learn to love them. The Kylie Jenner phenomenon has made it seem like everyone is obsessed with lips but in the real world, nobody cares. Websites like TMZ just don’t have anything better to write about.

So please, boys and girls, do not think for a second you need to suction a shot glass to your lips. It doesn’t work and you’re beautiful the way you are.

How to rock black lipstick

Khloe Kardashian posted this picture of herself earlier rocking black lipstick, and it got me thinking about all the other celebrities who have worn black lipstick and looked great doing it.

You don’t need to be any kind of famous to work this look, however. Lime Crime have a gorgeous matte black in their Velvetines collection ($20)

velvetine-blackvelvet_1_2 blackvelvet-lipswatch

The colour is called Black Velvet, and the gloss wand makes it really easy to apply.

The trick with black lipstick, and with any dark lip colour, is to have Q-tips and concealer on stand-by for clean ups. A dark colour is very unforgiving with errors. With a light colour the edges aren’t so defined or noticeable, but with black your edges have to be crisp. Which is why is it important to go round the lips with concealer and a decent brush after you have applied the colour.

With a bottom heavy makeup look like this, it helps to balance it out with bold brows. But with your eyes, anything goes. Whether you want to stick with just a simple cat eyeliner or go for a more sultry smokey eye, you can get away with either of these with a black lip. And if in doubt, just think: what would Rihanna do?

Another Hair Chalk Review or How To Get Kylie Jenner Hair

So I’ve tried a good few hair chalks in my time. I like that they offer you the opportunity to experiment with colour without the commitment. Because I don’t like commitment.

These guys are designed for more precise decoration.

As you can see, I got some chalk on my jumper. Thats why you wear a towel when you’re applying it! These are way better than the Superdrug Spray chalk and even better value than the Kevin Murphy colour bomb at £7.50 for two different colours. So try the Hair Artist Hair Chalks for a bit of extra colour in your life. Do the whole Kylie Jenner thing.

The ULTIMATE Kylie Jenner lip tutorial

So I did one of these a while ago, but I have to say that this is the ultimate Kylie Jenner lip tutorial:

Jenna absolutely nails it. Watch it. Its hilarious.

NARS Lip Pencil Review

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas or non denominational winter holiday. I received these from my brother:

photo 1 (6)

These are five great colours consisting of 3 Satin looks and 2 matte looks.

First up is this festive dark red, Cruella (matte)

photo 2 (7)

Going lighter and a bit more orange toned, Iberico (matte)

photo 2 (6)

Then theres a classic winter Future, Yu

And two nudes, Descanso

and Torres Del Paine

These pencils are great for accuracy. They wear like a lipstick but with the accuracy of a liner and no where near as drying. The satin finish gives a bit of a sheen, whilst still being highly pigmented. They are by no means sheer. And the mattes also manage the nearly impossible feat of looking matte without drying your lips. They’re comfy enough to wear all day and they are food proof, meaning the colour withstands a good meal.

I love these pencils and highly recommend them to anyone who wants a lipstick and liner in one.

Trend Alert: Grey Ombre Hair

Last night/tonight (depending on your time zone) was/is the Diamond Ball. Rihanna made her appearance sporting a gorgeous new hair do:

Its a grey ombre look, and its not the first time we’ve seen it.

Kylie Jenner rocked the grey ombre a few months ago:

I love it! Its a great way to spice up black hair. In fact I am considering dying my hair black just so I can try this look.

Hair Chalk Spray Review

As you may remember from this post, I love hair chalk. I’m a huge commitment phobe so I like to be able to mess around with different colours and then be able to wash them out. I recently bought Superdrug’s own brand Spray on Hair Chalk (£2.99)

photo 3 (2)

Its a very good price, but the reason is it is only for one use. The can is pretty small and it ran out before I’d even finish using it. Hardly got any blue hair out of it! 😦

photo 1 photo 2

Obviously this particular product is meant just for one use but there wasn’t enough in there to give me blue tips, so if you have long hair or thick hair you will need at least two cans. Also don’t forget to put a towel round your shoulders before you spray it, and make sure you are in a well ventilated area. You don’t want a blue hair chalk coating the inside of your lungs.

My favourite YouTube Beauty Gurus

I don’t watch many makeup videos on YouTube tbh, but when I do, its one of these guys.

First up is my girl Camila Coelho. Her English channel is MakeUpByCamila2. She is Brazilian so most of her videos are in Portuguese but she does separate ones for her English speaking fans. My favourite of her tutorials is the Valentine’s Day look

Next is Huda Kattan. A beauty blogger based in Dubai who posts killer makeup and beauty tips. My favourite video is her Lipliner Tutorial where she goes over the basics any girl needs if she want to learn the secrets of overlining (alla Kylie Jenner)

I learnt most of my makeup skills from drag queens, so its no surprise that my favourite makeup tutorials are by drag queens such as Vivienne Pinay, Miss Fame and Fendi Laken

Of course, if you aren’t a drag queen you can skip a lot of the stages in the videos, and you don’t have to be as exaggerated with your makeup, but they are a really good source of tips and inspiration.

Happy YouTubing!
