Lime Crime Velvetines Dupe

velvetine-pansy_1

Lime Crime’s Velvetines range is a collection Lip Colours that apply like a lip gloss and dry with a matte velvety look. They have been incredibly popular, causing other brands to try and replicate their product. They have become a huge trend in makeup. However if you don’t have the $20 (about £13) PLUS shipping, here’s a cheap dupe for you:

It’s Makeup Academy’s Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer and it’s just £3!

To apply, start with clean, product free lips

Line lips with a matching colour. I used Mac’s lip liner in Currant

Fill in the lips with the Lacquer

Tidy the edges with a q-tip or some concealer.

And voila!

It will dry matte and you’ll be left with long lasting lip colour.

It is a bit sticky while it is drying but once its set it will be dry and unsmudge-able. Seriously, it takes some elbow grease to get it off.

Now go treat yo’self with the money you’ve saved!

The Dos and Don’ts of Summer Makeup Looks

Summer is a crazy time for makeup. If it’s not too hot to wear any (unlike today, where people wearing makeup deserve a medal) it’s nice to experiment a bit more with colour. But there aren’t really any rules, do whatever feels comfortable. These are just some of my ideas for Hot Summer Makeup:

DO go coral!

Whether lipstick or blush, coral and orange shades are always in for summer. At the moment I am in love with this Lime Crime lipstick in Cosmopop:

It looks very orange but it actually has more of a nudey/corally look on the lips.

I also think these summer blushes look super cute:

These Clinique Blush Pops come in 4 different shades, 2 berry shades (Berry Pop and Plum Pop) and 2 coral shades (Ginger Pop and Peach Pop). They are creme based so they won’t form a weird paste on your skin when you sweat, like powders tend to do.

Another great cheek colour for summer are the Daniel Sandler Watercolour blushes, in particular the Acid and Trip duo set:

At £25 for BOTH they’re very good value for the quality you are getting. They are highly pigmented and easy to blend, plus the colour lasts through storms and sunshine. These colours are gorgeous for summer. Trip (the orange) is great for complimenting your tan.

DON’T be put off using dark colours! Your dark berry and purple lipsticks still can have a place in your summer makeup routine, if teemed with glowy bronzed skin and minimal eye makeup, alla these stars:

DO pair a smokey eye with a nude lip for the balmy summer evenings. This look looks amazing with a tan!

A great smokey eye palette is the Benefit Smokin’ Eyes Kit (£28.50)

This kit also comes with a great eyebrow wax and highlighter that I use everyday, and a brush for easy application.

Lastly, DO what you feel comfortable with. Wear your makeup how you want, or wear none. If you are going to brave wearing makeup in this heat, just remember to use a good primer and a setting spray so you don’t accidentally leave your face behind on the tube.

Vegan Friendly Makeup Brands

Vegan and Cruelty free makeup brands are so important, and it’s reassuring to know what you’re putting on your face in the name of beauty hasn’t harmed any creatures or the environment in any way. Most makeup brands these days … Continue reading

Spring Trend: Coloured Liners

As seen in my last post, this season is all about colours. The brighter the better. One trend that was all over the faces at the various fashion weeks was coloured eye liners. Yes, really. Apparently the early naughties are back. But there are ways to do it that can actually look quite chic (cringe at the word chic).

The top picture is actually an eyeshadow – Tangerine Dream by Mac – used as a liner with a liner brush. The bottom is from Spanish Fashion Week but the liner isn’t named.

A couple more from Fashion Week. The top is from Paris Fashion week and the bottom is from the Kenzo show. Again both Mac, both unnamed liners. However I suspect that the bottom one is the mac Fluidline gel liner in Waveline.

Fluidline is a great gel liner, Blacktrack being one of my every day staples. These are some of the more adventurous colours they do. As you can see some are already sold out due to the popularity of this trend. But Mac aren’t the only people who do great liners in fantastical colours.

For my american readers, check out Lime Crime Makeup. They are a 100% vegan and cruelty free makeup company that specialise in the big and bold. Here are some of their looks that I just love.

The orange liner used here is called 6th Element. I absolutely adore this orange. And you don’t need to just be limited to using it as a liner. You can use it as eyeshadow or a secondary liner as shown in this look.

This Blue Milk liner is to die. The top pictorial is from @jennhunny83 and the bottom picture is of @priscillaono who is the absolute don of makeup artistry. Her Ono beauty classes in LA are the best in the game and her regular clients include Amber Rose and Iggy Azalea. She loves a bright colourful eye and this liner looks great with blue hair.

This white liner look by @ashleyswagnerxo is using Lime Crime’s Lunar Sea liner. This look also fits in with the white eye shadow trend I wrote about earlier this year. It’s fresh and cute and simple. Exactly what we need for spring.

For my UK readers, you can buy Lime Crime cosmetics from UK stockist cocktailcosmetics.co.uk or you can visit the Lime Crime website (limecrime.com) and pay the shipping costs and tax.

But if you want something you can get hold of here, Urban Decay have always had a great stock of coloured liners. My favourite Kohl liner I’ve ever used is Urban Decay’s jet black liner in Perversion. It is the blackest black and it never runs or bleeds. You can get a pack of 6 Urban Decay Kohl liners on beautybay.com right now for £18.20. Click here.

All in all I think this is a really fun trend and I can’t wait to try it.
